The Department of Defense will be getting an upgrade to their Space Weather Analysis and Forecast System courtesy of Peraton.
SWAFS is a cloud-based platform that provides real-time evaluations of space weather events such as solar flares and solar winds that can have an immense impact on satellites, communication systems, and power grids on Earth.
Planned to be release for operational use in March or April of 2025, SWAFS 2.0 will better help operators identify and evaluate on-orbit anomalies, communication interference, and false-echo returns for radar systems. SWAFS 2.0 will also better support military operations with navigation thanks to an updated capacity for data collation and correlation, as well as a design that can be tailored for specific missions.
“We are actively engaged with our customer to move away from scientifically interesting space weather information to operationally relevant information that provides the decision makers the right information in a timely fashion to improve decision making timelines.” – Peraton SET4D Program Director, Brent Thoden
