Today Peraton was recognized as one of Forbes America’s Best Employers for Diversity in 2024. The company was also awarded Washington Business Journal’s Corporate Diversity Index, Newsweek’s America’s Great Workplaces for Diversity, and the VETS Indexes 4-star ranking during the first two quarters of the year.
“We are honored to be recognized by industry and national organizations for the work we do each day,” said Laila Salguero, chief DEI officer, Peraton. “These awards represent the collaborative efforts between my team, talent acquisition, university relations, and our colleagues across the enterprise to make a difference for the company and the critical missions we support.”
Peraton has made continuous investments in engagement, retention, and recruitment to promote a more diverse, equitable, inclusive, and accessible workplace.
Employee Culture
Over the past year, the company has seen significant growth across its five employee resource groups (ERGs). Peraton’s ERGs hosted and participated in more than 100 internal and 14 external events, which provided opportunities for 2,500 employees to receive professional development, access to resources, participate in networking opportunities, and impact their community.
The DEI team also launched a sixth ERG, called the Caregiver’s Community. This group was created to provide resources and support to employees who are responsible for the care of parents, children, and spouses.
Recruitment and Partnerships
The DE&I team has connected with thousands of students through Peraton’s university partnerships to increase awareness of how nontraditional backgrounds can support national security. One such partnership is the Commonwealth Cyber Initiative (CCI) through George Mason University. The apprenticeship provides students from the university with training and hands-on applications to prepare them for a cybersecurity career.
The DE&I team recently established a partnership with the University of Maryland’s (UMD) Iribe Initiative for Inclusion and Diversity in Computing, giving Peraton access to a more diverse candidate pool. Three members of Peraton’s executive leadership team received degrees from the university.
“As we move through 2024, we will continue our journey toward greater diversity, equity, and inclusion,” Salguero said. “The lessons learned in 2023 guide our path and propel us forward to advance Peraton’s business outcomes, customer solutions, and community partnerships using innovation and diversity. Together, we’ll build a workplace that promotes equity and celebrates inclusion.”
